I was playing pool yesterday, when my phone vibrated in my pocket. It tickled a little. It was a text message from a local number that I did not know. I don't ever... OK, rarely... use my phone. Most of the time, it is dead in my pocket and I'm a jerk for not returning calls.
"U GO RACING"
What? I read it, looked at the number again, read the message again. I couldn't process the information. I put the phone back in my pocket. About five minutes later, still not sure what to do with this, I told the Chad "I just got the weirdest text." A few minutes later, I decided to respond.
"BACK DOOR BEAUTY Z?"
I wasn't able to emphasize the question mark properly. Never mind. It's a quote from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. An immediate response:
"DUE WHAT"
Now I was certain this was no one that I knew. I don't associate with people who confuse which "do" to use. I didn't answer back. Another response a minute later:
"R U HOME"
I put the phone back in my pocket for a couple of minutes, now playing darts. Distracted. A few minutes later, I couldn't get it off my mind. What if it was someone messing with me? Finally, I responded:
"U R CREEPY"
About fifteen minutes go by, then:
"SORRY WRONG NUMBER"
It's weird, I have had a phone with texting capabilities for a number of years now, but this is my first wrong number conversation. Why is your racing friend not in your address book?
